Just after 1 am, the Portsmouth Fire Department responded to a report of a dumpster fire at the Verizon Wireless Store on Young Street.
The area around the store is subject to frequent complaints about drug addicts and the homeless, many of whom come from homeless camps under the overpass. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
Officers responded to Speedway at 2:46 after a domestic disturbance got out of control. Witnesses said the male half of the argument busted out the window of a vehicle. Officers spoke to both parties.
At 1:21, police responded to 8th Street for a report of a woman “very messed up on something.” Officers found the woman sitting on a wall. She explained that she was homeless and had not been able to sleep recently. Police decided she was not under the influence and let her go.
