Deputies arrested a 58-year-old Franklin Furnace man for elder abuse after an investigation prompted by a call from personnel at SOMC.
Back on Wednesday, the hospital contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to report their concerns about a patient brought in for treatment. Medics feared the 79-year-old woman was a victim of elder abuse.
When detectives responded to the hospital, they found injuries consistent with abuse, which they photographed. The hospital transferred the victim, 79-year-old, Patricia Vansickle, of Franklin Furnace to hospice care.
Detectives arrested Matthew Vansickle, 58, also of Franklin Furnace, for failure to provide care for a functionally impaired adult.
The victim passed away from her injuries on Saturday, and detectives upgraded Vansickle’s charge to involuntary manslaughter. He’s due in Portmsouth Municipal Court on Monday.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said the investigation is ongoing and could result in more charges.
