Escapee captured in Pike County
A 33-year-old escapee from the Jackson County Correctional Facility was captured in Pike County and two men who aided in the escape were also arrested.
Brittany Thompson was being held on drug trafficking charges at the Sheriff’s Office in Jackson when she broke free of her shackles and made a run for it out the door on Saturday afternoon.
She was later spotted making a phone call at Tobacco Unlimited on Broadway Street wearing just a sports bra and striped jail pants turned inside out.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office with the help of the K-9 unit began tracking her and found her jail shirt near a home on Water Street Jackson.
Investigators also determined that Thompson used the phone at Tobacco Unlimited to call Mark Collins, 51, of Jackson. He admitted to picking Thompson up and taking her to Pike County and then later picking Thompson and her current boyfriend, Matt Overly, to take them to another residence in Pike County.
On Sunday, the United Stated Marshal Services SOFAST Task Force arrested Collins for aiding in Thompson’s. The Task Force later captured Thompson while she was hiding in the back seat of a vehicle on Buchanan Road in Pike County. She was charged with escape. Overly was arrested for a parole violation and is incarcerated in Ross County.
