What began as a serious rollover crash on a rural road quickly turned into a chaotic scene involving multiple ambulance requests, a struggle with deputies, and an arrest.
Scioto County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Slocum Heights Road for a report of a car accident. Dispatch also notified the Ohio State Highway Patrol and requested a squad to respond.
When a deputy arrived, they discovered a vehicle flipped over at the scene.
Ambulance Called—Then Called Again
Dispatch requested an ambulance a second time, then a third time, before ultimately asking Portsmouth Fire Department to send a squad to check on an injured man involved in the crash.
But instead of cooperation, deputies say they were met with resistance.
Crash Scene Turns Confrontational
According to the report, the man involved put up a fight with officers. Deputies ultimately arrested Steven Justice, charging him with:
- Obstructing official business
- Resisting arrest
Justice was booked into the Scioto County Jail.
Quick Court Appearance
Justice later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where he posted bond. He is scheduled to return to court on March 3 for a pre-trial hearing.
A Long Driving History
Court records show this was far from Justice’s first encounter with law enforcement.
His history includes:
- OVI convictions in 2017, 2012, and two cases in 2007
- Multiple charges for driving under suspension
- Dozens of traffic citations
- Charges including child endangerment, failure to comply, and domestic violence
