Gregory Duane Bender, Jr., 61, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born October 6, 1959, in West Palm Beach, FL to the late Gregory Duane Bender, Sr. and Hazel Marie Tackett Gee, who survives.
Greg was a retired millwright and member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of American Local #1090. A 1979 Portsmouth High School graduate, Greg was a former professional boxer and certified SCUBA diver. He enjoyed rebuilding and tinkering with cars, especially Camaros.
Surviving is his son, Gregory Duane Bender IV of Ironton; his mother, Hazel Marie Gee of Portsmouth; seven siblings, John Bender of Franklin Furnace, Kim Bender of Portsmouth, Mark Bender of Sciotoville, Phil Bender of Minford, Rick Bender of Portsmouth, Danny Bender of Columbus and Bobby Bender of Portsmouth; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
