Hero Citizens Stop Dangerous Wrong-Way Driver
Heroic citizens sprung into action to prevent a tragedy when a diabetic driver had a medical emergency on Walnut Street. Plus, a peeper stalks a Summit Street girl. We hit the highlights o the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- Just after midnight, a caller reported a man jumping out into traffic near Spectrum Cable on Offnere. The man left before the police arrived.
- A 5 am check of Tracy Park revealed two people sleeping under the shelter house. Officers advised them to leave.
- At 9 am, a Linden Avenue caller reported 4 people in a garage at a condemned property. Officers transported a woman to Common Pleas Court and a juvenile to a court date in Juvenile Court.
Summit Street Peeper Stalks Teen
A 13-year-old Summit Street girl called police just before 4 am to report a strange man looking through her windows just before 4 am. He ran away when she called 911.
Police stopped a man walking down the street carrying a few bags about 20 minutes later. They said he didn’t act suspicious and they didn’t believe he was the suspect.
Thieves Hit Greenlawn Cemetery
Proving there’s no place thieves won’t touch, officers responded to Greenlawn Cemetery just before 8 am for a theft report.
Someone stole the catalytic converter from one of the maintenance trucks. Officers took information for a report.
Under The Influence
- Just before 9 am, a caller reported a man in the 800 block of Gallia hitting vehicles and yelling. Police caught up with him in front of Diamond Gems and detained him. He admitted to taking fentanyl. An ambulance transported the man to SOMC for treatment.
- Just after 1 pm, a 6th Street caller reported a man got into his cargo van and refused to leave. The man appeared to be high on drugs, so officers arranged for medics to check him out before arresting him. He was booked into the Scioto County Jail.
- Just before midnight, a caller reported a man lying on the steps to the basement of the Apostolic Church on Young Street. PPD took a man into custody for drunk and disorderly.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
- Officers responded to a report of a B&E at two vacant Wayne Hills Apartments. Officers assisted management in checking the apartments.
- A Dunlap Road caller reported money missing from his bank account at 11 am. Officers took information for a report.
Woman Found Deceased in 7th Street Home
Just after 11 am, a landlord discovered his tenant had passed away in a 7th Street home. Police notified the coroner who later instructed officers to release the deceased to her family.
PPD contacted officers in Kentucky who assisted with notifying the next of kin. Police photographed the interior of the home and towed the deceased’s vehicle to impound for safekeeping.
Unhappy Roommate
A 6th Street man contacted police at 11:30 am to report an assault by his roommate. Multiple witnesses, including the victim’s own brother, said that no assault took place.
They said the man was upset because everyone in the home was still asleep and he wanted to go cash in some cans to get drinking money.
Police advised all parties to behave.
Motel Date Steals Man’s Car and Debit Card
A man contacted police at 11:46 am to report his car missing. He said he had a woman at the Four Keys Inn the previous night and she took his car, debit card, and other items.
Officers took information for a Grand Theft Auto report.
Drug Dispute
A woman contacted police at 1:30 pm to report a domestic assault stemming from a dispute over drugs.
The woman said that she and her ex-boyfriend got into an argument over an OSP traffic stop. She claimed he threw drugs in her lap and that she’d contacted the FBI over the incident.
She said he grabbed her by the neck during the incident. However, she didn’t want to press charges against the man.
Citizens Stop Wrong-Way Driver
Concerned citizens came to the rescue when a driver went the wrong way down Walnut Street just after 2:30 pm.
Other managers managed to stop the vehicle. It turned out the driver was having a diabetic emergency. Police dispatched the rescue squad who transported the man to SOMC.
Kids With Guns on Summit
At 9:06 pm, a caller reported that a child pointed a gun at another child on Summit Street. Police took information for a report.
Racoon Vs. Cop
An officer hit a raccoon on SR 335 at 9:35 pm. There was minor damage to the front bumper of the cruiser and the officer headed to SOMC to get checked out.
