A high-speed chase that originated near Lucasville on Friday afternoon seemed to impact nearly everyone in the central and western parts of the county. Speeds averaged over 100 mph with members of the Sheriff’s Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Portsmouth Police involved in the chase.
Just before 2 pm a deputy on patrol near the Scioto County Joint Vocational School heard a gunshot. It was quickly determined that a suspect approached a vehicle described as a maroon Dodge pickup truck. According to reports, the suspect approached the truck from the passenger side and fired a shot, breaking the glass and forcing the owner to flee for his life. The suspect then took the truck and fled the area.
After locating the fleeing vehicle, the deputy started a pursuit that quickly accelerated.
Within minutes, troopers from the OSP and other deputies chased the driver south on 23. After passing through Portsmouth, the chase continued west on 52. Stop sticks were not successful on multiple occasions.
Adams County authorities were notified as the chase quickly headed toward the county line reaching speeds of over 120 mph.
It was reported that the vehicle wrecked near Manchester but continued to flee. Due to the severe damage sustained to the front end, officers predicted the vehicle would fail soon.
Just west of the city limits of Manchester, the chase came to an end. It is unknown if the vehicle failed on its own or if a previously approved PIT maneuver was performed.
After a chase that traveled over 50 miles before coming to an end, officers arrested Christopher Peake.

Peake has been charged with: Aggravated Robbery, Theft, Felonious Assault, Tampering with Evidence, Having Weapons While Under Disability, Failure to Comply with Order or Signal of Peace Officer, and Resisting Arrest.
Peake was ultimately taken to the Scioto County Jail. Despite two pursuit vehicles reporting damages, no injuries have been reported to law enforcement, the suspect, or the public.
SCDN has requested all dashcam/bodycam video from each agency involved in the chase. We will bring that footage to you once it’s received.
