Holliday – women have right to self-protection

Lawrence County Commission President DeAnna Holliday made it clear why she supported passing a resolution to declare Lawrence County a Second Amendment Sanctuary,

“As a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, I hereby declare that we have the right to self-protection. As women, we do not necessarily have to turn to a man for protection. We have the Constitutional right to protect ourselves and our families with a firearm.

The commissioners unanimously passed a carefully-worded non-binding resolution in support of Second Amendment rights at Tuesday’s Lawrence County Commissioners’ meeting. Holliday said she was ‘honored’ to be able to bring the resolution to the table.

I embrace the power and the strength of this timeless document that we call our Constitution.”

Holliday also said the legislation was important to her as a hunter and member of the Wild Turkey Federation.

“I’m honored to know that hundreds of members believe in the rights of hunting individuals in our county and state and they join me in support of this resolution.”

She said that the resolution was mean to send a signal to everyone “That we believe the second amendment gives us the constitutional right to own firearms without any impediment.”
