The Scioto County Jail refused to accept a man after his 55th arrest and a man overdosed at the fire station. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Under The Influence
- Just after noon, callers reported a man staggering n the roadway on 17th Street. He staggered down to the fire station, where medics determined he had overdosed. He left the station and ran up an alley.
- At 2:21 pm, officers responded to a report of drunk mail staggering down Sterling Avenue. They said he’d changed his shirts multiple times.
- A Jackson Avenue caller reported a man passed out on their porch at 4:41 pm. Police took the man into custody.
- Just after 5 pm, an 11th Street caller reported a woman standing on the corner who appeared to be out of it.
- At 6:40 pm, police responded to a report of a man passed out in a blue Honda van at the First Stop Market. The man’s wife picked him up and took him home.
- At 9 pm, police responded to a report of an overdose on Dorman Drive. An ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
Bad Blood on Winchester Avenue
Officers were called to intercede in a neighborhood dispute on Winchester Avenue at 1:19 pm. A man told police his family had a verbal dispute with the neighbors and their dog lunged at him.
He said this neighbor complains when they work in their garage or in the alley and that she began behaving erratically and screaming at his wife. The woman also said her dog would attack him, then later claimed it was not her dog.
When officers spoke to the woman, she said nothing like that happened, it must be someone else. Police noted that she was fascinated with their body cams and kept pointing out that she owned her home while the neighbors were renters.
Police advised both on measures to get along.
Missing Man Found at Homeless Shelter
Officers located a missing man at the 8th Street homeless shelter. The man’s mom had reported him missing in West Virginia.
Police spoke with the man and they determined he was safe. Officers made sure he contacted his mother to let her know he was safe.
Suspicious Activity
- At 9:29 pm, a caller reported a man with long gray hair looking into vehicles on Harding Avenue. Police spoke with the man.
- A woman contacted the police at 8:30 pm to report harassment. When officers tried to speak to her, she refused to answer their questions and instead kept reading from a list of names. Police eventually gave up and left.
Jail Refuses Man Arrested for 55th Time
A troubled man was arrested for the 55th time just before 9:30 pm. Police took him into custody after someone reported a suspicious person near Alexandria House.
The Scioto County Jail refused to accept him. Officers released him on his own recognizance and arranged for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.
