Janet Lee Lewis, 93, of Portsmouth, a former Minford area resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at SOMC Hospice. She was born on January 27, 1933, in Minford, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Irene Ietta (Fields) Eckhart, Janet lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and lasting impact.
A proud 1950 graduate of Minford High School, Janet carried the values and spirit of her hometown throughout her life. She devoted many years to her career at Desco Federal Credit Union, where she was esteemed for her commitment and service.
Janet’s personal life was filled with love and family. She married Arthur Edward Lewis on July 1, 1961; they shared many years together until his passing on January 2, 2018. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters Edith Kennedy and Mary Helen Bennett, and fours brothers Marvin Eckhart, Harold Eckhart, Dean Eckhart, and Orel Eckhart.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Renee (Doug) Cooper, and her cherished grandchildren, Cheri North and Lee Edward North.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Bethel Cemetery in Oak Hill, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662 in Janet’s memory.
