Joan Elizabeth Joseph Ross Garrett, 90, of Springfield, OH (formerly of South Webster) passed away on September 28, 2023, at her home. She was born on November 28, 1932, the daughter of Oscar and Celia Jacobs Joseph.
She graduated from South Webster High School in 1950. She worked a number of years in the Scioto County Treasurer’s Office before leaving there to work at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, eventually retiring from there. Joan married James (Butch) Ross on June 6, 1953, and they were married 45 years before he preceded her in death in November 1998.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Cathy Ross, her step-mother, Gertrude Joseph, her siblings, Dick Joseph, Jim Joseph, Margaret Brown, Carol Smith, and Mike Joseph, and two step-sons, David Garrett and Garry Garrett.
On August 12, 2000, Joan married Howard Garrett, who survives. Other survivors include her sons, Dan Ross and Mark (Karen) Ross; her brother, Pat (Karon) Joseph; grandchildren, Matthew Ross, Taylor Ross, Kelsie Ross, Andrea (John) Halsted, Amy (Ryan) Tober, and James Cook; great-grandchildren, Kylie Tober, Brody Tober, Freya Jeunelot and Atlas Jeunelot, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special friend and neighbor, Laura Roddy.
She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield. Joan had a beautiful alto voice and enjoyed singing in her church choir as well as providing special music for the service from time to time. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 11 AM to 1 PM with the service immediately following at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in South Webster.
