A kid who took his dad’s work vehicle without permission led cops on a wild police chase that ended in a spectacular fashion.

It all started at 4 a.m. when an officer spotted the vehicle going the wrong way on St. Rt. 823 at 4 a.m. The driver nearly crashed head-on into a Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Police say he attempted to cross the median on US 52 near Wheelersburg. At one point, officers say speeds got up to 100 mph.

Officers called in Ironton Police and the Ohio State Patrol to set up spike strips to stop the reckless driver. However, the driver managed to avoid the strips and continued into Lawrence County.

Scioto County Deputies kept up the pursuit while waiting for OSP troopers to join in the chase. The driver hit 114 MPH as he passed Hanging Rock and took the Ironton Exit.

OSP and Lawrence County Deputies joined in the chase. Police reported the driver was going all over the road on Highway 141 before he crashed into a guardrail and went down a 20 ft. embankment.

When officers finally got the driver, they discovered it was a juvenile who’d made off with his father’s work truck without permission. EMS transported the boy to the hospital and contacted the juvenile court.
