The story of a boy who ran away during a holiday visit with a grandparent reflects the troubled lives of many local kids who find themselves in the hands of the CPS when their parents aren’t able to care for them.
The boy was on furlough from an area group home and was spending the holiday with his grandparents. However, officers responded to the home on Christmas day after the child said he didn’t want to go back to the group home.
Grandpa woke up the day after Christmas to find that the boy had grabbed his Xbox and ran off to avoid returning to institutional care.
Officers checked several locations where the boy might be located, but couldn’t find him. However, later in the day, the boy called his grandfather to say he was safe. The boy also called his father, who lived in a halfway house, to say he was fine. The child refused to tell the adults where he was.
