A man is behind bars and two others are hospitalized after an incident in Pike County. The Pike County Sheriff’s Office reported that both a ball bat knife were involved in the vicious attack.
Stabbing Report
It all started on Saturday, July 11, just before 7 pm. According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Buchanan Road on a report of a stabbing.
When they got there, sure enough, the found a man with a stab wound to his abdomen. The Sheriff’s Office identified him as Richard Titer, Jr., 51, of Springfield.
Deputies also discovered another man in pretty bad shape. Patrick Colburn, 56, who lived down the road from the scene of the attack was injured. Officers said he was hit with a ball bat. Colburn received injuries to his head and upper body.
Mr. Titer was transported by Medflight to Grant Hospital for treatment. The Pike County Rescue Squad transported Mr. Colburn to nearby Adena Pike Hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said their investigation uncovered that Samuel B. Smith, 42, of Johnson, of Hill Road was responsible for the attack on Mr. Colburn. The report didn’t say who officers suspect was behind the stabbing.
The Charges
Mr. Smith was arrested and charged with felonious assault. He was transported to the Butler County Jail where Pike County houses inmates.
Pike County Sheriff James E. Nelson said he expected that additional charges will be filed. A case against Mr. Smith will be presented to the Pike County Grand Jury next time it is in session.
Violent Season
It’s been a violent few months in Pike County. Back at the end of May, officers from Pike County made four big busts in six days. In the course of four days, deputies from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office found heroin, meth, 91 pot plants, weapons, a pile of cash, a stolen vehicle, and several people who just don’t like to obey the law. Then, the Waverly Police Department Officers seized money, drugs, and guns in the parking lot of Kroger.
