We report almost daily about the dangers residents face from roaming packs of dogs. One poor victim even had to suffer through a rabies shot after an attack.
He told officers he was walking his own dogs when two angry pit pulls rushed up on him and started barking at him and his dog.
He said a man in a black car came to fetch the dogs and asked if the dogs had hurt anyone. The man said they hadn’t and headed home. He said while he was talking with his family in his yard, one of the dogs charged his family and chased them into the house.
Later, after his family left, he went to the dog owner’s residence to tell them the animals were loose. However, he said the door to the apartment building was wide open, and the dog ran out and bit him on the calf.
He went to the hospital for treatment and a rabies shot.
Officers took a statement and went to speak to the owner. He admitted that he’d returned home from work and noticed that his apartment door was open and the dogs were loose. He asked if the man was badly injured.
Officers told him his neighbor didn’t want to file charges but did want him to contain his dog. They also requested proof the dog had its shots. The man said he didn’t have any documentation, but he could get it later.
They warned the man that this incident would be reported to the Lawrence County Dog Warden.
