A Lucasville woman shot a home invader early Saturday morning. Now the Scioto County Sheriff wants your help to find the criminal.
Here’s what went down. According to Sheriff Marty Donini, it happened around 2:30 am in the morning on Saturday. A Lucasville woman called 9-1-1 to report that her house had been invaded and one of the suspects had been shot.
When deputies got to the home on Walnut Street in Lucasville, they learned the whole story. The woman who lived there told them that crooks had already hit her home a few hours earlier when she was out of the house.
The thieves took several items, including jewelry and a gun. Worried that the criminals might return, she called her daughter to come over and stay with her.
According to law enforcement, that’s exactly what happened just a few hours later. The mother and daughter were in the living room when criminals struck the home once more.
Mom and daughter heard someone trying to get in the back door. When that failed, the home invaders moved to a side door and began to attempt to pry it open. When the door finally came open, the crooks came into the utility room.
The invaders didn’t get far. When they entered the kitchen, one of the women fired several shots. She hit one of the suspects, later identified as Justin A. Holcomb, 32, of Lucasville.
Intimidated by the show of firepower, the home invaders took off running. They were last seen hoofing it through the victim’s yard.
Sheriff Marty Donini notified hospitals in the area to be on the lookout for anyone who cane in with a gunshot wound. The investigation led deputies to a home on Oakwood Avenue in Lucasville. Just before 1 pm, deputies and Ohio State Troopers arrested Holcombm who had been shot in the leg.
He was taken to SOMC for treatment and later released. Holcomb is charged with burglary and probation violation. He’s being held on $75,000 bond at the Scioto County Jail.
The incident is still under investigation. If you know anything, please contact Detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091. Tips will remain anonymous.
Ohio has what’s called a “castle doctrine” law. That means that you have a right to use deadly force to defend your home or your car if someone breaks in while you’re there.
