1. Man Arrested After Barricading Himself at Hospital
Portsmouth Police Officers came to the assistance of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and SOMC Security after a report that a man had barricaded himself in the corner of a room at the hospital.
Police assisted them in taking the man into custody, and he eventually calmed down. Officers followed a deputy to the Scioto County Jail.
The man was booked on charges of failure to comply, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, probation violation, and DUI.
2. 2 ODs Reported in 15 Minutes
Within the span of 15 minutes, Portsmouth Officers responded to two reports of overdoses. The first call came at 2:43 pm. Witnesses said a man had overdosed on Selma Avenue and was unresponsive.
Medics administered Narcan, and the man refused further treatment.
Twelve minutes later, a report of a woman overdosing on 7th Street came in. Medics and officers responded to a 6th Street home, and an ambulance took the woman to the hospital.
Initially, the woman claimed she was assaulted, but then she said she remembered that other people were shaking and smacking her in an attempt to wake her up.
She said she drank way too much moonshine and was never drinking again.
Around 8 pm, medics and officers responded to a report of an overdose on Grant Street. Witnesses said the victim still hadn’t responded after three doses of Narcan.
