A man was tasered twice after a drone helped officers track him down after an alleged assault on a pregnant woman.
Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident at the Lawrence Commons Apartment just after 2 am.
They learned a suspect had punched a woman in the face, choked her, took her keys, and dragged her inside an apartment. He then put her in a car and drove recklessly across several backroads. He threatened to kill her if she called the police.
Once the pregnant woman got away, he attempted to run her over when she refused to get into a car with her. Officers took information for a report.
A few hours later, she called back and said she didn’t want to press charges. Officers were suspicious that the man might be back and threatening her. When they headed back to the apartment complex, she admitted he was in the area.
Officers launched a drone to search for him and spotted him fairly quickly. They pursued him on foot, and he ran through multiple yards, jumping over fences while the drone tracked him.
The officer with the drone spotted him crawling in the front yard of a nearby house, and a deputy soon caught up to him on foot and advised him to stop. The suspect took off, and the officer deployed a taser. The suspect tripped but got up and kept running. The deputy deployed the taser again, and it took the suspect down. However, he got up and began to run again.
The officers chased after the man until he tripped again and took him into custody. Deputies booked him into the Lawrence County Jail.
