Police discover a filthy living situation in a PMHA Apartment and an arrest is made when squatters are reported in a condemned house. We hit the highlights of Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Traffic Crackdown
- Just after 7 pm, officers stopped a vehicle on Thomas Avenue and cited the driver for no operating license and no tag light. The driver refused to turn the keys over to the police. Officers arranged to have the vehicle towed.
- At 9 pm, police cited a vehicle parked on Thomas Avenue for fictitious tags. They arranged to have the vehicle towed.
- Police stopped a driver on Linden Avenue at 10 pm. They cited her for driving under suspension and arranged to have the vehicle towed. They transported the driver to the Scioto County Jail.
Disturbing the Peace
Kroger employees contacted police at 10:36 pm to report a juvenile causing a disturbance in the lot. A parent picked up the child before police arrived.
Suspicious Activity
A Boundary Street caller reported people going and out of a condemned Boundary Street house at 11:33 pm. An officer stopped a vehicle in the alley and took a woman into custody on an open warrant. Police checked the home and saw evidence people were living there.
Speeding While Intoxicated
Officers pulled over a speeding driver on US 52 at 1:30 am. Police took the driver into custody and then out to the OSP Post for a sobriety test.
Another officer dropped the passenger off at home and police arranged for the vehicle to be towed.
The driver was charged for OVI, speeding, and expired registration and dropped off at the jail.
Big Fight at Richard Noggins
At 2 am, police responded to a report of a huge fight at Richard Noggins on Gallia Street. By the time police arrived, the bar had shut down.
The Portsmouth Fire Department treated and released one man. Police determined it was a mutual fight with multiple parties, but no one wanted to press charges.
Man Caught Renting Out Rooms in His Filthy PMHA Apartment
Police were called to what seemed like a domestic dispute and discovered a filthy PMHA apartment apparently being used as a flophouse.
It all started when a man complained to police that his girlfriend was at his PHMA apartment on Kendall Avenue and wouldn’t leave.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered the official resident had leased the apartment out to other couples and was only sleeping there occasionally on a couch
Officers noted the house was full of dogs and dog feces were everywhere. They called the home hazardous with feces and trash everywhere.
Police took the girlfriend home to her mother and advised the man to get all of the other people out.
