The pair at the center of an animal neglect investigation controversy were arrested on Tuesday. Kathi McAlister Zornes and Joshua McAlister were booked into the Scioto County jail on charges of illegally using food stamps or WIC benefits.
The McAlisters were the humane agent and director of the Shawnee Humane Society. We told you back on April 10 that the pair refused to allow the Scioto County Dog Warden and another humane agent onto their property for an animal neglect investigation.
At the time, Joshua McAlister claimed the pair were after his expensive dogs. They wanted our dogs for their personal use because they knew one’s pregnant.”
At the time, images of dogs and a horse in what appeared to be physical distress were shared on social media. The Sheriff’s Office was eventually granted a warrant to go onto the property and take the animals.

According to sources who were at the scheduled court hearing today regarding that animal neglect, a member of the Sheriff’s Département interrupted the proceedings and placed the duo into custody for the fraud indictments.
SCDN will keep you up to date on any developments on these charges or the animal neglect investigation.
