Meth Pipe, Knives and Fentanyl Lead to Two Arrests

A reported robbery attempt in Chesapeake quickly unraveled into a chaotic scene involving knives, suspected drug use, and two arrests when deputies arrived to investigate. Lawrence County deputies were dispatched to a residence after a man reported that another individual was trying to rob the home. Armed Standoff at the Door When a deputy arrived, a man flagged him down outside the residence and said a man inside the home had become aggressive. According to the report, the suspect was standing inside the living room holding a pair of scissors and a butter knife while mumbling to himself. The deputy drew his weapon and ordered the man to drop the objects and come outside with his hands up. The man complied and was detained without further incident. Deputies noted he appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, based on his behavior and speech. A Ride That Went Sideways The caller told deputies that he and his father had picked the man up earlier in the evening in Huntington, West Virginia, saying he was related to a family member. They brought him back to their home in Chesapeake. But according to the caller, the man suddenly “snapped” and began grabbing items inside the house, which prompted the confrontation. Strange Twist During the Investigation While explaining what happened, the caller reportedly pulled a meth pipe from his pocket and attempted to hand it to the deputy. The deputy declined and set it aside while continuing to question him. The man then began rambling, and deputies asked how much meth he had used that evening. He responded that he wasn’t sure. A records check then revealed he had an active warrant for failure to appear in Lawrence County Municipal Court. He was placed under arrest on the warrant. Drugs Found in Wallet While deputies continued investigating, they located the suspect’s wallet inside the home. Inside were three small plastic baggies containing suspected drugs. The suspect admitted the substances were methamphetamine (“ice”) and Suboxone. At the Lawrence County Jail, the substances were tested and confirmed to be: Methamphetamine Fentanyl Both are Schedule II controlled substances. Two Arrests Made The suspect was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on drug-related charges, while the caller was taken into custody on the outstanding failure-to-appear warrant. Evidence from the scene, including the drugs, was photographed and entered into evidence. Authorities say what began as a reported robbery attempt ultimately ended with arrests tied to drugs and outstanding warrants.
