Michael Gilpin, 80, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Chillicothe, Ohio, after an extended illness. Born on February 20, 1945, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Michael lived a life marked by service, faith, and devotion to those around him.
Michael said many times that he was a very blessed man. However, he, without reservation, would say his greatest blessing was his wife of almost 60 years. His love story began when he married the love of his life, Eliza, on October 13, 1965. From that day forward, he loved her, and she unconditionally loved him.
Additionally, Michael was proud of his service to his country. He served honorably from 1965 to 1968, including a tour in Vietnam. His time in the military was a defining chapter of his life-one that reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to his country. His servant-heart could be seen as well in his nearly fifty years as a devoted member of the Sedan Baptist Church. His steadfast involvement and faithful presence in the church spanned decades and included service in various capacities.
Michael is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Eliza “Lisa” Gilpin, his two sons, Michael Gilpin (Jenny) and Matthew Gilpin (Tara), as well as his five precious grandchildren. His absence is already felt by all, especially his sibling Patricia Ebert (Mark), Bob Gilpin (Debbie), Tim Gilpin, and his brother Dan’s wife, Caroline Gilpin. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Gilpin, and his brother Dan Gilpin, as well as his mother, Juanita Gilpin, whom he cherished greatly.
Michael’s life was one of quiet strength and faith. His presence will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. It is the prayer of his family that his memory will bring comfort to those who knew him in the days ahead.
