Two miniature horses went on another neighborhood adventure, but their latest escape ended with a court summons for their owner.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Chesapeake-area home after a resident reported finding the brown-and-white and black-and-white horses on his property.
The man told deputies this was hardly the pair’s first unauthorized outing. He said the horses had wandered onto neighboring properties before, leaving behind manure and breaking flowerpots.
The resident identified the horses’ owner, and dispatchers contacted her to arrange for someone to collect them.
A short time later, an SUV arrived carrying three women. One explained that she was watching the owner’s property while the owner was at work.
The two younger women put ropes around the miniature horses and walked them back home.
Owner Says Gate Was Secured
When the owner returned, a deputy informed her that she would receive a summons to appear in Lawrence County Municipal Court on an animals-running-at-large charge.
The owner told deputies that she and her husband had secured the gate before leaving for work that morning. However, she said the woman watching the property later told her the gate was open when the horses were brought back.
The report does not explain how the gate came to be open.
The horses were returned home, but their owner was left with a court date.
