A man accused of brutally attacking two Scioto County corrections officers Saturday night was already sitting in the county jail awaiting trial on charges stemming from an earlier alleged assault inside a correctional institution.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said Dimitrious Anglen, 30, of Euclid, attacked one corrections officer during rounds at about 6:56 p.m. September 26, striking him repeatedly in the face and allegedly searching his pockets and taking items from him.
When a second officer rushed in to help, investigators say Anglen attacked him as well, striking the officer and placing his forearm across the officer’s throat until he lost consciousness.
Both officers were taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center. One was later transferred to Grant Medical Center for additional treatment.
Anglen now faces aggravated robbery, two counts of felonious assault, and strangulation. The aggravated robbery charge is a first-degree felony, while the other three charges are second-degree felonies.
But this isn’t Anglen’s first pending case involving an alleged attack while behind bars.
Already Indicted Over Earlier Prison Incident
A Scioto County grand jury indicted Anglen earlier this year over an incident alleged to have happened on December 9, 2025, while he was incarcerated.
That indictment charges him with fifth-degree felony harassment with a bodily substance, third-degree felony assault, and misdemeanor assault.
According to the indictment, Anglen allegedly caused or attempted to cause a person to come into contact with blood, semen, urine, feces, or another bodily substance while he was confined in a detention facility.
A separate count accuses him of knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm to a victim who was an employee of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The indictment specifically says the alleged offense happened at a state correctional institution while Anglen was incarcerated there.
Anglen had been housed at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville in connection with an attempted rape case before being paroled in April, according to the information provided to SCDN.
He was in the Scioto County Jail awaiting trial on the earlier charges when Saturday’s alleged attack occurred.
Officers Hospitalized
The latest allegations are considerably more serious.
Investigators say the first officer was struck multiple times and robbed of items from his pockets. The second officer allegedly lost consciousness after Anglen placed an arm across his throat.
Sheriff Thoroughman said the investigation remains open and additional charges could eventually be presented to a Scioto County grand jury.
Anglen is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, September 28.
The new charges and the earlier indictment are accusations. Anglen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
