A judge sentenced a man who sexually abused his fiancée’s 12-year-old daughter to 20 years to life in prison after he admitted to the heinous crime. His mother and the victim’s mother were also arrested.
Christian Hughes, 40, of Logan, sexually abused the girl for two years while living with her mom.

The assaults only stopped after the girl told a friend, and the friend’s mom called the police.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said, “Living under the same roof as this monster left little hope of her escaping his horrifying abuse. But monsters are powerless behind bars, and today’s sentence means this brave child no longer has to live in fear.”
The little girl’s mother, Tanya Parker, will serve three years in prison after she pleaded guilty to child endangerment.

Prosecutors said she knew all about the abuse but did nothing to stop it.
Prosecutors indicted Hughes’ mother, Cathy Hughes, for tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, attempted tampering with evidence, and attempted obstructing justice. Her case is pending in Hocking County.
Christian Hughes pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, gross sexual imposition, imposition, and obstructing justice back in December. After he gets out of jail, he’ll be under community control for five years and be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
