If you need help, Community Action is open for business despite the Coronavirus shutdown. If you’ve been hit hard financially by the crisis, they are here to help.
CAO offers assistance in getting help with housing services, utility bills, food aid, mental health services and so much more for those in need
Community Action Executive Director Steve Sturgill said that the organization is open because it has been deemed an essential provider. But they are making some big changes in the way they do business to keep you safe during this time. Temperatures of staff and clients will be checked when they enter the office. Extra effort will go into sanitizing all surfaces.
Program coordinator Tiffany Justice said it’s important for people to know help is out there. ”During this challenging period of social distancing, it may feel as if you are alone, you are not. Community Action is doing everything they can to continue to serve and strengthen our community.
Those who are in need can call 740-354-7541 between 8 am and 5 pm. We can help you by having a simple conversation for stress relief to getting assistance with multiple resources! Community Actions staff will stick by your side! It truly does take a community working together to make it better! We love our community!”

Food assistance for seniors, Head Start families and other youth in the county will be provided through home visits by either by our staff or Community Action network partners.
Head Start
Head Start services are still being provided to families. But Head Start centers are not open.
Need Counseling?
Community Action is still open to help those in need with counseling services.
Mental health and AOD outpatient and case management services are available either in-person or virtually. They are still accepting both adult and child clients.
In-person visits are continuing at the 3rd Street Administrative Office and the 2nd Street South Campus.
Video conferencing options are being examined and all Mental Health, AOD, case managers, family navigators, and workforce Development clinicians have access to ZOOM. Community Action is looking into how to help those without electronic connectivity stay in touch virtually. Counselors can also speak to you over the phone.
