Last night the Portsmouth Daily Times posted about an alarming news story about a man dying after witnesses said he was thrown from a car. Problem is, that didn’t happen, at least not last Thursday.
The actual tragedy happened on October 12, 2022. SCDN ran the story at the time. So, why did the Times think it had? The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office made a simple error and attached the 10/12/22 log along with the 10/12/23 log.
While reading about the Highland Bend incident. a drowning at the Super 8, and a suspicious camper fire, our head reporter, Cyn Mackley, recognized the incidents and double-checked the dates.
Fortunately, 10/12 of this year was far calmer. As news organizations, we depend on the information supplied to us by law enforcement and other agencies. That’s why it’s important that everyone involved be as careful as possible.
