An Otway resident called the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to report a dog in danger at a neighbor’s home. The woman said the dog’s owner had neglected the German Shepherd, which had ribs showing.
When officers arrived, they found a dog they described as slightly skinny and very skittish, though friendly.
The owner of the property said they didn’t know anything about the dog and that it must belong to a relative who lived in a tiny home behind her house. Officers tried to contact the relative, but no one answered the door. They discovered a makeshift dog house next to the tiny home but there was no food or water out for the animal.
Officers contacted the Scioto County Dog Warden. However, the agency said there was no one available to come out, and they would try to follow up at a later date.
Later in the day, a witness asked officers to check on the welfare of a cat at a Dixon Mill Road home. Officers noted the cat was in a cage in an open garage and that no one was home. When a deputy spoke to the humane agent, she said she would come out later to check on the animal.
