Not Enough Candidates For Primary Election on May 2nd
It seems Portsmouth residents are satisfied with their current elected officials. There aren’t enough candidates to hold a primary election on May 2nd. Many candidates for offices are running unopposed.
Portsmouth Municipal Court Russell D. Kegley filed as a Republican, and no other Republicans or Democrats put their hat in the ring.
City Auditor Trent Williams, City Solicitor John Haas, and Council Representatives Charlotte Gordon and Lyvette Mosely are also unopposed. Appointed Council Rep Dennis Packard has filed to be a write-in for the general election.
New Boston Mayor William Williams filed as a Democrat without any opposition as well.
During odd numbered years, Ohio election law allows municipalities to skip partisan primary elections if there’s only one candidate filing for the office.
