What started as a call about a suspicious person ended up with officers helping a worried son get to his hospitalized mother.
Just after 9 am, a service worker reported that a man was following him and trying to get into the back of his truck. The truck driver couldn’t figure out what the man wanted.
When officers arrived at the scene, they learned the man was living with autism and attempting to get to his mother, who’d just been transported to SOMC with medical issues.
Officers learned from another family member that they could not find the key to the woman’s van and had no way to get to the hospital. Police gave family members a ride to the woman’s home to pick up medication and then took them to the hospital after ensuring they had a way home.
Police assisted another person dealing with an ill mother just before 5 pm. A caller reported someone passed out in a Camaro on Gallia Street.
The officer woke up the man, who explained he was just exhausted from taking care of his elderly mother. Police did not think he was impaired, so they escorted him home so he could get some sleep.
