Portsmouth Police Officers did their best to respond to a man in the midst of a mental health crisis on Monday.
The first call came in from Speedway just after midnight. The man said he believed people on bicycles were following him, but left the area before an officer arrived.
He was next spotted at the BP on Gallia where he made the same claim. An officer suggested he go to the hospital and offered to give the man a ride, but he refused.
About an hour later, he turned up at the Dash Thru. He was able to answer basic questions, so the officer didn’t feel it was enough to mandate him to go to the hospital. However, the officer repeatedly offered to take the man to the hospital.
The man refused, instead wanting officers to follow him while he walked to the hospital.
