Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine, has signed House Bill 35 into law. The bill, sponsored by Representatives Bill Seitz and Jessica E. Miranda, establishes the Scout’s Honor Law.
This law removes the statute of limitations for civil actions related to childhood sexual abuse, but only for the purpose of filing claims against a bankruptcy estate of an organization chartered under federal law.
It also addresses the reclassification of sex offenders and child victim offenders whose offenses occurred before January 1, 2008, under the SORN Law. An amendment to this law is planned for five years after its effective date to address the elimination of the limitations period.
The bill is declared an emergency and will take immediate effect.
