In an effort to enhance the accuracy of assessing drivers’ impairment, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is set to implement cutting-edge high-definition digital video technology. The newly introduced DAX Evidence Recorder will play a pivotal role in capturing and recording various physical responses and eye movements of individuals suspected of driving under the influence.
Designed to be employed during traffic stops, this innovative device boasts an array of features including a video screen, an infrared video camera, integrated pen lights directed at each eye, and an interface for recording vital facial indicators like the forehead, nose, and eyes.
The DAX Evidence Recorder will also facilitate the inspection of drug residue in the nose, mouth, and on the tongue.
State authorities anticipate that the recorded data will soon become admissible evidence in court proceedings, with both audio and video recordings aiding prosecutors in building stronger cases against impaired drivers. This technological stride is reported to significantly contribute to safer roads and more effective law enforcement practices.
