More and more police reports show episodes of drivers passing out while driving. This upwardly-ticking trend is quite dangerous. As parents, we don’t want our children to encounter any dangers on the road, including deer and now zonked-out drivers. Here is what the police have to say about the most recent incidents of this absurdly dangerous and totally preventable crime.
Man Busted After Nodding Out Behind the Wheel at 6th and Harmon
Witnesses called 911 at 1 pm to report a man had nodded out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at 6th and Harmon.
Officers took the man into custody and arranged for a tow company to take the vehicle to the impound lot.
Police booked Aaron Smith into the Scioto County Jail for abusing harmful intoxicants.
Man Narcanned Behind the Wheel on Rosemount Road
A Rosemount Road motorist called 911 at 3pm to report a driver passed out behind the wheel. The caller said the man was unresponsive and had set through three green lights.
When a deputy arrived at the scene, the officer administered Narcan to rive the man and called for an ambulance.
The man came around and began to cough shortly after receiving the medicine.
Driver Narcanned After Passing Out Behind Wheel
Witnesses reported a man was repeatedly passing out behind the wheel of a moving car near Grant and Garfield Streets just before 5 pm.
A Portsmouth Police Officer arrived on the scene within five minutes and administered two doses of Narcan to revive the driver.
Officers took him into custody. However, the man began to turn blue. He refused treatment from medics, but an officer took him to SOMC. Police also arranged to have the vehicle towed.
An officer issued the man a summons for the incident.
