Paula Kaye Morgan, 84, of Portsmouth, passed away at the SOMC Hospice Center on Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was born in West Portsmouth on September 5, 1939, the daughter of the late Dorothy Rosabelle Spriggs Wallace and Earnest Earl Chapman.
Paula met her husband, Jim Morgan, while they were members of the former Portsmouth Rifle and Pistol Club. A talented shootist, she traveled with the other team members winning many competitions. The couple married on January 29, 1957, in Lawrenceburg, IN.
A 1957 graduate of Portsmouth West High School, Paula was of the Presbyterian faith. A talented seamstress and quilter, she had worked as a switchboard operator for GTE and was co-owner of the former Quincy Market along with Jim. Together, they enjoyed square dancing and spending time with their grandchildren. She was also very involved with the PHS Band Boosters when her children were in high school.
Paula was preceded in death by her husband, James Carter Morgan, on May 19, 2014; four children, Denise Louise Hammer, James Daniel Morgan, James Dane Morgan, and James Zachariah Morgan; her beloved stepfather, Vernon Wallace; and two siblings, Jerry Chapman and Judy Johnson.
Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, James David & Beth Morgan of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Daniel (Tiffany) Pollock, Christopher (Emmalee) Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Todd (Courtney) Morgan, Rebecca Morgan and Zariah Morgan; two step-grandchildren, Arista Keylie Morgan and Kyle Afton Cade; and two great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Jaxon Morgan.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor David Colegrove officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park.
