Officers helped resolve a teddy bear dispute and police were called to deal with a misbehaving child on a school bus. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Cry for Help
Just after 12:35 am, a caller reported a woman screaming for someone to stop hitting her in a house on 7th Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found an elderly couple. The wife was watching TV and the husband was asleep.
Police determined the cries were not coming from that home. They searched the area but didn’t find any other problems in the area.
Upset Ex
Police answered a call to Waller Street for a welfare check at 1:22 am. A man claimed a woman was arguing with her boyfriend. The caller was the woman’s former boyfriend.
When the police got there, the woman explained that she wasn’t arguing with her boyfriend. She claimed her ex called earlier and told her he was going to call the police. He was upset she had a new boyfriend.
Police said all was well at the home.
Tazed and Confused
At 1:52 am, a Walnut Street caller reported that someone in a purple car attempted to taze her boyfriend.
The reporting party also told police that someone was driving around shooting pellets at people. Officers checked the area but found nothing suspicious.
Suspicious Activity
- At 4:09 am, the Holiday Inn reported a man in the lobby who refused to leave. The man left when an officer told him to.
- An 8th Street caller contacted police at 7 am to report a man kept lying down in the street, then getting up and pacing while talking to himself. The man told police he was trying to work out his problems by talking to himself. Police advised him to keep it down.
- The 8th Street homeless shelter reported a man on the porch cussing at employees and throwing stuff around. Police said the man was gathering his belongings off the porch.
Crash Course
- Just after 11:30 am, police responded to a crash at 12th and Chillicothe. The vehicles pulled into the Tim Horton’s parking lot and officers took information for a report.
- Officers responded to a crash on Washington Street at 11:48 am. A car was backing out of a parking spot at Shawnee Family Health and backed into another vehicle. Police took information for a report.
Bad Bus Behavior
Officers were called to Portsmouth High & Middle School for a report of a kid causing problems on a school bus.
An officer stood by while school officials handled the issue.
Teddy Tussle
Officers were called to the 17th Street Homeless Shelter to settle an issue involving a teddy bear just after 4 pm.
The matter was settled when an employee of the shelter offered to buy the child who originally owned it a replacement. The person who had the bear was allowed to keep it.
