Portsmouth Police Officers have been struggling to control issues with the area’s homeless and addict population congregating at certain spots around the city.
After numerous reports of issues with trash and needles left behind by individuals sleeping in the stage area of Tracy Park (including multiple people urinating on the war memorial), officers have instituted hourly checks which seem to be getting the problem under control, at least at that location.
While the midnight and 5 a.m. checks at the park proved clear, officers did find a group of people in the park during their 8 a.m. check. They warned the individuals about rules in the park and advised them to clean up the trash they left behind.
Officers were called to York Park at 7 a.m. for a report of a woman screaming and cussing at workers in the park. Police discovered the woman had an open warrant and took her into custody.
