There was a large public turnout at an emergency board meeting of the Portsmouth City School District.
The meeting was to accept the resignation or “Retirement”, as Board President Barb Gibson put in air quotes during the meeting, of the District Superintendent, Scott Dutey. The official meeting lasted less than 5 minutes. No questions were permitted or addressed in the meeting as the board voted to abandon the normal agenda format that allows for questions from the public. They were all silenced by that motion made and subsequent approval by the board.
Reportedly, a previous vote of no confidence by district employees went nowhere after the board took no action.
The resignation of Dutey will be effective on Jan 3rd to accommodate unused personal days. His last day as Superintendent is reported to be Friday, Sept. 15th.
The next board meeting will be held on Sept 21st at 5 p.m.
The public is encouraged to continue to ask questions and demand answers.
The Assistant Superintendent has raised serious concerns over his conflict of interests both with the teaching staff and the board.
Reports indicate that the Portsmouth City School District had never had an Assistant Superintendent. It’s said this position was literally carved out just for him. Several instances of nepotism and conflicts of interest have sparked outrage among the staff and community.
SCDN will continue to work closely with the many sources that continue to come forward to shed light on this issue. We do this for the teachers, students, parents, and taxpayers.
