Portsmouth Police got a sudden burst of calls about a screaming female on Monday. They stated that they saw a male drive off after putting her in the ominous “White Van”. There was concern about the screaming female having been abducted.
Videos and stories swarmed social media. Witnesses provided their observations to the police. Additional surveillance footage was located. An exhaustive investigation led to the identification and location of the van’s owner.
It was discovered that the van owner’s wife suffers from severe dementia. Having had dinner at a local restaurant, the husband helped his wife into their van when she had a major outburst. After getting his wife in the van, he was able to calm her enough so that they could attend the Oak Ridge Boys Concert at the Vern Riffe Center.
Police in Portsmouth expressed their gratitude to witnesses for calling 911 and locating the van.
