Some quick-thinking kids called 911 after their grandma had a medical emergency and they may have saved her life. Plus Portsmouth Police dealt with a rash of vehicle break-ins. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Briefing.

Who Left the Bank Unlocked?

A water delivery person accidentally set off alarms at the Atomic Employees Credit union just before 9 am. The front door was unlocked and he believed the business was open. However, the alarm sounded when he went inside.

An employee came out to lock the door.

Asleep at The Wheel

The Taco Bell on Gallia reported a woman who’d been sleeping in a running Jeep in their parking lot for 2 hours. She told police she was down on her luck and living in her car. She just wanted a safe place to sleep.

The officer advised she go to the homeless shelter on 17th Street.

Brick To The Head

Officers responded to SOMC after The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office alerted them about a man who’d been hit in the head with a brick.

Police took photos and did an interview.

Kids Save Grandma

Some quick-thinking kids may have saved their grandma’s life just after 11 am. They called 911 from the Park Apartments to report that Grandma was unable to talk.

Police believe she may have had a stroke. The woman’s sister was able to come to get the grandkids.

Burglary In Progress

A Harrison Street caller saw a man in a black hoodie break into a house and take a suitcase. He then walked up Harding with a woman.

An officer checked the residence and discovered an open outside basement door. The home was unfit to enter. They could not locate the suspect.

Unhappy Neighbor

An angry neighbor called police multiple times to complain about a neighbor putting up ‘no trespassing’ signs and saying untrue things about him.

He did not want an officer to respond.

Break-in at the Impound Lot

Officers responded to the Police Impound lot at 12:27 pm. Someone cut a hole in the fence. Police checked cameras but didn’t spot anyone.

Person With A Gun

A Mabert Road neighbor reported hearing a woman yell, “Put the gun down!” and “I’m going to kill you!” just before 2 pm.

When police arrived at the scene they took a woman into custody and impounded a gun and several other items.

Unwelcome Guest

Officers answered a call to a High Street home at 2:25 pm. The residents wanted the man who’d been staying in their basement to leave.

He cut wires to the Internet and threatened them before leaving the scene.
