Portsmouth Police Reports: Bruised Baby and Strange Noises

Portsmouth police officers investigated reports of a bruised baby, weird noises, and unruly kids on Saturday. Plus, they helped return a missing teen to her mom. Under The Influence

  • A caller reported an intoxicated woman walking on the U.S. Grant Bridge at 12:30 am. Units from PPD and Greenup headed to the scene. Greenup County Officers helped the woman back over the rail to safety.
  • Officers answered a call to the Dash Thru on Gallia at 9:51 am. An apparently high man was in the store. Police spoke with him.
  • Officers responded to a report of a man overdosing at a Kendall Avenue apartment just before 2 pm. The caller said two doses of Narcan were already administered. The man was gone when police arrived.
  • A woman called police to report drug activity in the Woodbine apartments just after 7 pm.
  • Police responded to a report of an apparently high man yelling on Wayne Avenue just after 7 pm. Officers transported him to a rehab center and took a report.
  • At 8:12 pm, police answered a call to 17th Street for two women overdosing in a vehicle. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Officers were called to the Dash Thru on Gallia at 11:20 for a report of a man slumped over.  He was told to go home.

False Alarms

  • At 12:33 an alarm sounded at Ollie’s Burgers and BBQ on Chillicothe. Officers checked out the place. Everything was fine.
  • Just before 2 am, the alarm at the Southern Ohio Museum on Gallia sounded. The museum’s artistic director, Councilwoman Charlotte Gordan came to the scene to check the museum with officers.  They checked the entire museum and found no problem.
  • The Alarm on the CVS pharmacy sounded just after 3 am. Officers found no problem at the scene.
  • A commercial alarm sounded at a Gallia Street business just before 3:30 am. Everything looked secure when officers arrived.
  • Eight minutes later, the alarm at the Sciotoville Community School went off. Officers said everything looked okay at the scene.
  • The alarm at Taco Bell went off at 5:47 am. Police said the scene appeared secure.
  • A residential alarm sounded on 8th Street at 3:48 pm. The owner accidentally set it off.
  • An alarm went off at a Walnut Street business at 8:30 pm. Everything looked good when police checked it out.

What’s That Noise?

  • At 2 am, a caller reported hearing someone outside his Dorman Drive Apartment. Officers checked it out. They found nothing.
  • Twenty minutes later,  a caller thought they heard someone inside the McKinley Pool.
  • At 5:21 am, a caller reported a dog barking o Baird Avenue. Officers were unable to locate a dog on the scene.

Suspicious Minds

  • Police responded to a report of a suspicious person on 17th Street just before 6 am. Turned out the guy had several warrants.
  • A caller reported a man yelling at a woman in the Burger King drive thru window just after 8 am.  He then walked off talking to himself.
  • Callers reported a man walking down the middle of US 52 at 10:23 am. Police spoke with him. He didn’t appear to be impaired.
  • Officers answered a call for a man lying on the sidewalk just before 11 pm on 25th Street.  Turns out he had a warrant. Police helped him get a court date and let him go.

Missing Teen Found

Police located a missing Marion County teenager just before 1 pm. According to the police report, her boyfriend brought her to the station. They contacted the girl’s mother who said she was on her way from Marion.

Police turned the girl over to Children Services until her mother got there.

Abuse Worries

Adams Street neighbors called police with abuse concerns at 6 pm. They feared a 1-year-old boy was being abused.

Police contacted Children Services.  They spoke with the parent and noted visible injuries to two children. The mom said one child had fallen and hit the other’s crib. She said one of the children is autistic and has no pain receptors.

Police took the information and forwarded it to Children Services.

Dog Days

  • A caller reported a loose dog in Mound Park at 6:22 pm. Police said the owner was at the park with the dog.
  • Officers responded to a report of a dog with no shelter, food, or water on Mabert road just before 7 pm. Officers said the animal had food and water and looked healthy.

Turn It Down

  • A Winchester Avenue caller reported loud music at 11:30 pm. Officers advised the residents to turn down the tunes.
  • Twenty minutes later the caller complained again. The officers said they couldn’t hear the music until they were in the yard. They also said the people were listening to a very small radio. They advised them not to turn it up any louder.

Things Not To Do In Front Of A Cop

At 11:55 pm, a woman called police to report her daughter as a runaway. The girl returned home while police were there and began to argue with her mother.

Police told the girl to go inside and advised the mother on the process for filing unruly charges.
