PPD – Goodbye Bed & Stealing From Mom

Portsmouth, Ohio Police responded to a report of a missing bed and a claim a man stole from a hospice patient, who also happened to be his mom. We break down the calls from a busy Friday in these next 11 slides.

Suspicious Activity

  • Just after 2 am, a caller reported a woman lying on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Kendall. Officers were unable to locate her.
  • Around 3 pm, police responded to a disturbance on 7th Street. Three people were involved but none wanted to cooperate with officers or press charges.
  • A caller reported a woman making threats and acting unusually at the Auxillary homeless shelter on 17th Street. She packed her things and left.
  • At 6:22 pm police reported 11th Street neighbors screaming at each other.  Officers said it’s now a daily occurrence.

Kids In Trouble

Police answered a call to a church on Gallia Street at 3:12 am to deal with an unruly juvenile who took off with a vehicle. They dropped the child off with its grandmother just after 4 am.

Alarming Situations

  • Police responded to a residential alarm on Ridgeway Road just before 7 am. The alarm company called back to cancel.
  • An Alarm sounded at Barbour Auto Parts at 8:30 am. They were open for business and everything was fine.
  • A residential alarm sounded on Dr. James F. Scott Place just before 2 pm. It was a false alarm.
  • An alarm sounded on Kentland Avenue at 3:30 pm. All the doors were locked but there a delivery on the porch and a cat present, either of which might have set off the alarm.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • Police answered a call to the BP on Gallia at 7:27 am. A man in a full face mask and cam shirt stole a bunch of merchandise and took off in the direction of New Boston in a maroon Envoy. Officers took a report.
  • An SOMC Hospice patient called officers at 2:23 pm to report her son took her key. She was unsure of when it happened but called Pike County because she wasn’t sure where the theft occurred.  Waverly PD told the officer to have the victim call them when she gets out of hospice.
  • Police responded to a report of a break-in at a home on Simpson Street.

Distressed Daughter

A McConnell Avenue mom called police for help just after 8 am. She said her adult daughter was out of control, screaming, and breaking things.  Police noted she was quite aggressive towards her mother.

Police spoke to the troubled woman’s counselor who suggested the woman go to the hospital for evaluation. Officers arranged for transport to the hospital.

Not Without Your Keys

Just before 9 am, a woman asked an officer to stand by so she could retrieve property from the Amazing Grace Center. She said they would not let her have her things.

The center said she couldn’t come in until she handed over her keys to the place. The woman said she didn’t have keys. Police advised it was a civil matter.

Under the Influence

  • Officers responded to an overdose call at the Royal Inn on Kendall at 9 am. The male victim was not breathing. The caller said the victim jumped up and ran off after NARCAN was administered.
  • A caller reported a man passed out by the bushes on Coles Blvd. Police took him into custody.
  • Officers responded to a report of a woman apparently ‘tweaking’ in a car in the Kroger parking lot just after 2 pm. She was gone when they got there.
  • Police answered a call for an overdose on 5th street at 10:30 pm. The man refused medical treatment.

Online Threats

At 12:55 pm, a woman reported receiving threats via social media. She said a man sent threats to her through multiple Facebook accounts. She sent screenshots to move the threats but was unable to prove just who sent them.  Police filed a menacing report.

Beddie Bye

A man called police at 1:26 pm to report a stolen bed. He said it’s missing from his aunt’s Summit Street apartment but he can’t remember the building number.

The man lived with his aunt for a time but they had a falling out back in June and he left the home. He said he couldn’t take his bed at the time. The nephew also said  Aaron’s refused to pick it up due to COVID.

He claimed his aunt didn’t let him know she planned to move and now he can’t find her. He’s not even positive she moved.

Left Behind

An employee at the Dollar General on Gallia reported someone left an animal on the lot just before 7 pm. The man was still there and told police he would take it to the vet.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Officers responded to a fight at Kentland and Harding just after 7 pm. Police said two men and two women were involved. Police detained a man and advised him to stop fighting. Then they headed to talk to the other half of the fight.
