Portsmouth Police Reports: Stalked By A Man With A Gun

Portsmouth, Ohio Police had a heck of a time tracking down a suspect a man claimed stalked him with a gun all day Tuesday.  Plus a mom reported that her son was inappropriately touched at a local ministry center. Man With A Gun

Officer answered a call to the Woodbine Apartments at 1 am. The caller reported receiving threatening texts from a man who later showed up in a dark blue Subaru and waived a gun at him. He then turned around and headed south on Kendall.

At 5:51 pm, the caller reported that the man who threatened him drove through the apartment complex again. He was gone when police arrived.  Officers advised the man to call them if the suspect returns.

At 9:30 pm, the man called again. He was in the field behind the Sunset Bowling Lanes and afraid to leave because the suspect had chased him in a vehicle.  Officers advised him on how to file for a protective order.

False Alarm

  • Just before 7 am, police responded to a medical alarm at Horizon House. It turned out someone accidentally set off the alarm.
  • About the same time, another alarm sounded at a Gallia Street business. The alarm company called shortly afterwards to cancel.
  • The alarm at Notre Dame High School sounded at 7:30 am. An employee accidentally set it off.
  • Just before 8 am, a residential alarm went off on 27th Street. The homeowner accidentally set it off.
  • At 10:37 an alarm went off at a Bonser Avenue residence. A woman accidentally left her door open.
  • A Thomas Avenue resident accidentally set off a burglar alarm just before noon.
  • Just before 2 pm, a residential alarm sounded on 5th Street. The resident accidentally set it off.
  • A panic alarm sounded at the McCormick Building on Oakland Avenue at 3:30 pm. Turned out to be a false alarm.
  • The burglar alarm at the Berean Baptist Church went off at 6:24 pm. The alarm company canceled three minutes later.
  • An alarm went off from the laundromat next to the Oasis Convenient Mart just after 10 pm. An employee accidentally set it off.

Under The Influence

  • The owner of a Gallia Street business found drugs in her dumpster just before 9:30 am. Officers collected multiple medications and took them to the prescription drugs disposal box.
  • A caller reported a man staggering in 17th Street just before 6 pm. It turned out he had a warrant. Officers secured a court date for him and took him back to his Kendall Avenue home.

Messed Up

A caller reported an apparently high man wandering in the middle of 19th Street at 4:40 pm.  By the time police arrived, his mother and girlfriend were there. The girlfriend took him home with her.

The mother was upset that police did not make him go to the hospital. She was also upset that officers were unable to supply her with Narcan. They advised her to take him to the hospital and informed her that Narcan is available through the Health Department and at other places.

Forty minutes later, the girlfriend called the police. She said the man was messed up and refused to leave her apartment. He finally agreed to allow a relative to take him to the hospital.

Fake Money

A Gallia Street business reported they discovered a fake $20 bill while counting out their cash drawer. The employee was unsure of who passed the counterfeit bill. An officer collected the bill for impound.

Facebook Famous

A Farney Avenue man called police just after 11 am to report he had been slandered on Facebook. Officers advised it was a civil matter.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

A caller reported a man cussing out a woman at a Tracy Park picnic table at 11:27 am.  It turned out the man had a warrant. Officers took him to the Scioto County Jail where they issued a summons.

Under The Influence

  • A caller reported a woman sitting in front of the Long John Silvers just after 1 am. She had a cardboard sign asking for money and kept nodding off.
  • Officers responded to a report of a woman lying against the fence next to the dumpster at Aldi at 6:28 pm. She told the police she was all right.
  • A caller reported an apparently high man wandering around Harding Avenue just after 9 pm. Police were unable to locate him.

Worried Families

A worried grandfather stopped by the Scioto County Jail to ask for a welfare check on his grandchild. He said his son had full custody of the girl and there was some type of issue with CPS.  Officers attempted to help by contacting Scioto and Montgomery County CPS. Neither had information. SCCS said the last known location of the child was somewhere in Kentucky.

Concerned family members asked police to check a Vinton Avenue residence for a woman whom friends and neighbors haven’t seen in a while. The woman has a history of drug and alcohol abuse.  Officers went in through an unlocked window.  Everything looked fine inside the house. Another neighbor said they believed she had gone to Columbus.

Inappropriate Touching

A worried Mom called police just before 9 pm. She said her son was inappropriately touched by a man at a local ministry center. Police took information for a report.

Nowhere To Be Found

The search for a missing girl caused conflict at a Thomas Avenue Apartment. Just after 10 pm, police checked the home for the juvenile. She was not there.

At 10:51, the resident called to complain people had harassed him over the girl’s location. Officers checked the apartment and the shed once again. The girl was not there. Police advised all parties to avoid each other.
