A woman claimed her husband tried to run her down after an argument and a dad sleeps through an emergency situation with his child. We break it all down in the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- At 1:31 am, a Gallia Street caller reported a man walking through the area hitting windows of businesses and throwing trashcans into the road. Police could not locate him.
- A man contacted police at 3:47 am to report two men kicked in his back door. Officers took information for a report.
- At 5:21 pm, officers responded to a report of a man yelling at himself on the flood wall. It turned out to be a man with whom police have daily contact. Officers spoke to him.
Under The Influence
A 17th Street caller reported a drunk woman on their porch at 3 am. They said she beat on their doors and windows and they want her removed.
Police took the woman into custody and a relative came to fetch her belongings.
Chased with a Knife
Just before noon, officers received a report from a man who said he was hiding behind a car at 17th and Thomas after someone jumped him with a knife.
A few minutes later, he told police people chased him and he was now hiding behind Woodbine Apartments.
Domestic Dispute
A woman contacted police at 12:22 pm to claim her husband attempted to hit her with his car. When officers arrived at her home, she told them the pair got into an argument at Speedway.
She got out of the vehicle to walk home and she said he took off up Kendall and almost hit her. She backtracked a bit and said she didn’t believe it was intentional. Officers provided information on how to file a protection order.
Dad Slept Right Through It
At 5 pm, officers tried to contact a Franklin Avenue dad to let him know his child was being taken to the hospital. Portsmouth Ambulance needed to contact a parent. They said they knocked on the door but he wouldn’t answer.
Another child came to the door but said he couldn’t wake up dad. Police were unable to contact the man.
Child In Danger?
A Willans Street caller reported screaming at 8:24 pm and told police he feared a child was being beaten.
Employees of a group home told officers a woman assaulted another woman and several employees. The victims did not wish to file a police report. Officers told them to contact the police if it happened again.
