Homeless folks setting up camps in the lobby of the Portsmouth Post Office is an ongoing problem, and there doesn’t seem to be a solution in sight.
Just after 1 am, police responded to a call that homeless campers in the lobby were disturbing employees.
Officers spoke to a female camper, and she agreed to leave. However, twenty minutes later, employees called back to say the woman was threatening them in the parking lot.
Police picked the homeless woman up, had her sign a no-trespass order, and then dropped her off at Kroger.
Shortly after that, Kroger employees requested an ambulance for a person who was rolling on the ground at the store. However, as soon as the ambulance arrived, the woman got up and said she didn’t want to go to the hospital. She then left the area.
PNC employees called the police regarding a homeless camper frequenting their lobby. Officers prepared a letter to have ready to serve the man when they caught him in the lobby again.
Alexandria House residents called the police at 4 am to report multiple homeless people refusing to leave the lobby of the apartment building. Officers cleared the lobby without incident. A caller complained that other residents were letting people into the lobby. Officers advised them to complain to PMHA.
