Portsmouth, Ohio Police responded to a whole bunch of crime reports on Thursday including a 13-year-old said she was kidnapped, two DOAs, and a man with his pants down. We break down the highlights in these next 16 slides.
13-year-old Reports Kidnapping
Just after midnight, a grandmother contacted police to report her 13-year-old granddaughter left home without permission. Officers took a report.
Around 5:30 am, they received a confirmation that the girl had returned home. However, she claimed to have been kidnapped.
Police followed up at another address and took a kidnapping report. Additionally, a neighbor told police he heard a disturbance earlier in the evening. He looked outside and saw the missing girl, but shut his door because he didn’t think anything suspicious was happening.
Kids In Trouble
Just before 3 am police picked up two juveniles on 5th Street. The mother of one of the kids picked her offspring up. Officers tried to take the other child home to West Portsmouth but nobody was home. The officer dropped the child off with a grandparent around 4:30 am.
Alarming Situations
- Police answered a commercial alarm at Portsmouth Connex just after midnight. The alar company called to cancel.
- Just before 1 is, police received another commercial alarm from Portsmouth Connex. It turned out to be a false alarm.
- An Alarm sounded at Aarons on Walnut at 12:57 am. Everything checked out okay.
- Another commercial alarm sounded at the Shawnee Family Health Center at 7:25 am. An employee accidentally set it off.
- Just after 8 am, the alarm at the Central Church of Christ went off. A member of the congregation accidentally activated.
- A commercial alarm sounded at the PHS Food Pantry at 1:36 pm. There were classes there all day long, so it appeared to be a false alarm.
- Three minutes later the alarm at the Portsmouth Cinema sounded. Everything appeared to be secure.
- At 4 pm, police responded to a residential alarm on N Taylor Court. Everything appeared secure.
Keep It Down
A caller reported loud music on 2nd Street at 12:37 am. Police advised parties to turn the music down and they obeyed. Officers issued a warning and said they’d issue citations if it happened again.
Pants On The Ground
Officers were called to the Royal Inn on Kendall just before 3 am for a report of a man near a light post with his pants down.
Police said they advised the man and he went home.
Message Delivered
An officer delivered a message to a Vinton Avenue resident at 4:27 am advising him to call someone. The man was not pleased to be awakened at such an early hour.
Move Along, Please
- Police responded to a report of homeless people staying in Tracy Park just after 9 am. They found the subject under a tree on the Gay Street side and advised them to move along.
- Officers answered a report of a man refusing to leave a Kendall Avenue apartment. He did not live there. Police stood by while he got his things and left.
Missing Daughter
A worried mom contacted police just after 9 am. Her daughter had checked into a rehab center last week. She’d called to find out if the woman was still there, but the center could not give her that information.
Police took information for a report.
You Ain’t Getting Your Sh*!
A man on a bike flagged down an officer just after 11 am. He said his friend of 30 years ripped him off. The man claimed he put his items in the friends truck because they were heading south to work on hurricane cleanup.
He said the friend left before he was able to tie up loose ends. The friend allegedly told the victim’s wife, “I ain’t waiting and you ain’t getting your sh*!”
Police said they’d need to know more about the friend before they could follow up. The man declined to file a report.
Can’t We All Just Get Along?
- A Rose Street resident contacted police at 12:38 pm. The callers saw the female half of an older couple hanging halfway out of the door yelling for help. The caller could hear the man yelling. Police said the couple was just having an argument. They’d calmed down by the time officers arrived and no one wanted to file a report.
- Gallia Street’s favorite feuding couple received their daily visit from the police after the man complained that he wanted the woman to leave. Police once again advised the two to stay away from each other. The woman said she had clothes in the residence. The officer suggested taking them with her. She refused.
DOAs
- Just before 1 am, a caller found her neighbor dead on the floor of a 2nd Street apartment. The coroner released the body to the family.
- Officers received a report of an overdose on Mabert Road at just after 10 pm. The caller said the man was not breathing. Additionally, his skin was discolored. When police determined he was dead, they notified the coroner. Officer also attempted to contact Animal Control to take the victim’s pets. The coroner notified the next of kin.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
- Police received a report of a catalytic converter missing from a vehicle parked at the Park and Ride just after 1 pm.
- A Harrisonville Avenue caller reported a riding mower just before 7 pm. Police took a report.
Unwanted Visitor
A man called officers to 12th Street just after 1:30 pm with a pretty disgusting complaint. He said someone went into his home without permission and left what police called “discharge” in a bowl. They did not specify what type of bodily fluid.
There was no sign of forced entry. Police advised the man to ask his landlord to change the locks. The man wanted to know if the act was a hate crime.
After further checking, police discovered the man had recently been asked to leave a homeless shelter and apparently had some mental health issues. Police made arrangements for him to be seen by a mental health professional.
Under The Influence
- At 2:46 pm, a 12th Street caller told police his adult son was shooting up drugs in the bathroom. He wanted him to leave. Police said the son was asleep when they arrived and they couldn’t find any evidence of drug use. They did advise the parent on how to file an eviction.
- An employee of the Harding Avenue Dollar General found apparent drugs just after 4 pm. Police impounded the item.
GTA
Police continued their search for two suspects in a series of vehicle thefts from Columbus. They checked a 14th Street apartment and also ran the plates of vehicles in the area to make sure they weren’t stolen.
Officers said the no one answered the door and there were cobwebs on the door.
Welfare Check
A Circle Drive caller requested a welfare check on a Brookwood Drive man. He said the man’s dog often gets out and makes its way over to his house. When that happens, he calls the man to come to get the dog. However, the wan was not answering the phone.
The officer made contact with the man and he went to fetch his dog.
