Monday and early Tuesday were fairly quiet times for Portsmouth Police Officers. A woman claimed her sister had stopped her from contacting their Alzheimer’s – stricken mom, a gun turned out to be a toy, and officers made several welfare checks on children. A Little Too Real
Monday
- Officers were called to 28th Street just after 9 am for a report of someone in the middle of the street with an orange shotgun.
- It turned out to be a toy rifle.
- He was advised to stay off the street for his own safety.
Tuesday
- Another report of a person with a gun came in just after midnight.
- A caller reported a man and woman walking north while fighting.
- They said the man made a threat about a gun.
- When police arrived the parties said the argument was just verbal. Police issued a warning.
Known and Wanted
Monday
Just after noon, police responded to the auxiliary homeless shelter on 17th Street.
They picked up a woman with a bench warrant for domestic violence. She had a total of three warrants.
- Two domestic violence warrants.
- One warrant for violating a temporary protective order.
Officers took Kathryn Slack to the Scioto County Jail. The 24-year-old is currently being held without bond.
ODs and Drugs
Monday
- At 4:30 pm, police responded to a report of an OD on 5th Street. No further details were available.
- Just after 6:30 pm, officers responded to a report of a man overdosed in front of the 14th Street Community Center. Witnesses said someone put the man in a pickup truck and took off with him. Police caught up to them and issued a summons in lieu of arrest to Dillon Vanbibber.
- Police were called to Hudson House at 6:36 pm for a report of a woman overdosing.
- At 6:40 pm, officers received a report from High Street that an apparently high man was sitting in front of a building. The caller also said there was drug activity at the address. Police advised everyone there to leave.
Child in Danger
Monday
At 4:48 pm, police were called to 5th Street to do a welfare check on a little boy. The caller claimed the adults were doing drugs and the boy feels neglected.
The boy looked to be in good shape to the police. He said he was fine. Though CPS does already have an open case from this address.
Kept From Mom?
Monday
Police were called to 21st Street just before 10 pm by a woman worried about her mom.
She said her elderly mom has Alzheimer’s. Every time she calls, her sister picks up the phone and won’t let her speak to her mother.
Police spoke to the mother. She said she was fine and didn’t want to talk to her daughter.
Bedtime Blues
Tuesday
At 2 am, police were called to Gallia Street for a report of children screaming inside an apartment.
When officers arrived, the parent explained the kids were screaming because they didn’t want to go to sleep. Police checked, all the kids were now asleep.
Dog Fight
Tuesday
- Just before 4 am, police were called to Charles Street. A man reported his dog was stolen.
- Officers checked the home of the person he claimed took the dog. There was no dog and not evidence the guy took the animal.
- The pup is not chipped but is wearing a collar. Police think the dog is probably escaped or lost.
