PPD – Little Girl With A Black Eye

Portsmouth, Ohio Police had a busy Wednesday including an arrest in a murder investigation, a possible case of child abuse, and death threats between brothers. We check out the highlights in these 13 slides.

Under The Influence

  • Officers responded to a report of two men passed out in a van in the parking lot of Wendy’s just after 1 am. It turned out there was a warrant for one of the guys. Police took him into custody.
  • At 3 pm, police responded to rose Street for a report of a man overdosing.
  • Police responded to a report of an overdose on Argonne Road at 8:35 pm. The caller reported the woman was unresponsive.  She refused medical treatment. Police impounded some items and took a report.

Who’s Knocking at My Door?

A 5th Street caller reported that a man showed up at his door asking for help at 1:40 am.  When officers spoke with the man he said he got into an argument with his girlfriend and she took his phone.

Suspicious Activity

  • Just after 2 am, a woman on 3rd Street reported she heard people talking in back of her house. Officers checked the area and found everything secure.
  • A caller reported an apparently high man in a car at the Dollar General Store at 9:43 pm. They also reported kids in the car. Police said the man was fine. He was simply playing a synthesizer on his lap.
  • A caller reported several people hanging out at the shelter house in Mound Park just before 8 pm. It turned out to be a Narcotics Anonymous/Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

Hit With A Brick

A man flagged down an officer at 2:05 am to report he was hit with a brick under the Young Street Overpass. Police arrested a woman for felonious assault.

Murder Investigation Arrest

Just before 3:30 am, officers received a call that led to a murder arrest. New Boston Police spotted a car parked in a lot in Wayne Hills. The recognized it as a vehicle belonging to the murder suspect in a homicide investigation and followed it.

The name of the suspect was obscured in the police report so we cannot say definitely say it’s connected with the Holsinger murder in Wayne Hills until we have confirmation from the police.

The New Boston Officer didn’t have probable cause for a stop and his lieutenant told him to back off. About 10 minutes later multiple PPD units caught up with the vehicle at the Royal Inn and arrested a man whose name was concealed on the police log. Officers arrested a man on an existing bench warrant and took him to jail. They also dropped a woman off in Franklin Furnace.

They executed a search warrant on a motel room and the vehicle. In total, officers spent nine hours at the motel.

False Alarms

  • Police received a report of a commercial alarm on Court Street just after 7 am. The alarm company called to report a false alarm.
  • At 7:55, another false alarm. This time a residential alarm on Timlin accidentally set off by the homeowner.
  • At 11 am, an alarm company reported a residential alarm on Sunrise Avenue. Police spoke to the homeowner. She set it off accidentally.
  • Half an hour later, officers got an alarm from Intermission Campus Ministries. The alarm company called 10 minutes later to say it was a false alarm.

True Alarm

Not all alarms are mistakes. At noon, police received a report of a burglar alarm on 5th Street. Someone broke into the house and busted down the back door. Police checked everything out and took a report.

Making A Mess

Just after 9 am, a caller reported people going through trash cans in the alley behind Hutchins Street.  The officer instructed the people to clean up the mess.

This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

  • Officers responded to a report of a vehicle with windshield damage and a slashed tire outside the Wayne Hills Rental Office at 10:34 am.
  • At 11:00 am, at S Taylor Court resident complained about a neighbor’s grandchild drawing on his vehicle with chalk. Police advised it was a civil matter.

Bad Blood

A man called PPD just before 4 pm to report death threats from his brother. He said he was at SOMC visiting his mom and is brother threatened to shoot him if he goes to her house. The brother had previously threatened to kill him if he came back to Ohio.

Card Troubles

A man asked police for help with some problems he was having with his Netspend card.  He said he’d attempted to withdraw $800 from the account but was declined three times. He said the account now said the money was withdrawn.

The officer thought it just might be a glitch and attempted to contact customer service for the man.

Child In Danger?

A Dayton woman called police to report her daughter missing when the child’s father didn’t return her on time from a visit to Portsmouth. She said he finally dropped the girl off at her grandmother’s house. However, the child was shaking, crying, and had a black eye. She believes the child’s father and his girlfriend abused the girl in Portsmouth.

Police took information for a report.

Movie Money

A traffic stop at Gallia and Kendall just after 10 pm turned up $30,000 in $1,000 bills. But it was all motion picture money. The driver had proof he bought it on the Internet for $92.
