Portsmouth citizens were in a fighting mood on Thursday and Friday. Officers responded to disagreements about everything from license plates to trash cans. Not to mention missing toilet paper and a lot of strange smells. We’ll hit the highlights in the next twelve slides.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?
Thursday
- Police were called to Kendall Avenue at 2:22 am for a report of people fighting. They were gone by the time officers arrived.
- Just before 9 am, police were called to 8th Street for a report of a domestic. When police arrived, a woman told them she’d been arguing with her ex-boyfriend.
- Just before 10 pm, a 17th Street Woman got it into it with a neighbor over parking. The neighbor punched her vehicle. Apparently the argument was over one of the cars having Kentucky tags. Officers described both parties as childish and advised them to stop their bickering and grow up.
Friday
- Just after 11 am, a Hurth Apartments resident reported that a neighbor was harassing her because she is clairvoyant. Police took a report.
- Officers were called out the Four Keys Inn just before 9 pm on a report of a man and woman fighting. They were advised to keep the noise down.
Suspicious Minds
Thursday
- Just before 3:30 am, a Mabert Road resident reported a suspicious person lingering around her truck. He was gone by the time officers arrived.
- Officers were called to Chillicothe Street at 5:20 for a report of a tattooed man on a bicycle pretending to have been struck by vehicles. He then claimed the drivers owed him money.
- Just before 7 pm, police got a report of a man in a red shirt and red wig standing in the middle of 15th Street talking to himself. Officers advised him to stop.
This Property is Condemned
Thursday
- Just before 10 am, the National Bank of Waverly notified police that people were staying in a condemned 5th street property without permission. Officers found people locked inside the building. It turned out that two of them had warrants. They were advised to report to probation. Officers made them get their stuff and leave.
- At noon, police received a complaint from a 6th Street man who said that he’d allowed people to stay in a room over his garage. He claimed they haven’t paid rent and he wanted them gone. The Portsmouth Health Department came out to condemn the building.
The Young and the Restless
Thursday
At 5:30 am officers received a report from a Center Street mom that her 14-year-old had left the home without permission. He headed to a friend’s house in New Boston. Police picked the kid up and returned him home.
Friday
Police received a call from an 11-year-old Mound Street boy around 9 pm. He said his mother had put her hands around his throat. Police saw no obvious signs of abuse but contacted CPS.
Cry For Help
Thursday
- Just before 6 am, PPD received a report of a Highland Avenue man attempting to hang himself. Two minutes later, a caller said the man was now threatening to take pills. When police arrived, the man said he was fine. He refused to let them in. Officers didn’t feel they had enough evidence to force entry into the home.
- At 9:35 pm, a man told police his girlfriend sent him a video of her attempting to hang herself with a cord. When police arrived, she said she was not feeling suicidal. She just wanted her boyfriend to pay attention to her. She refused treatment.
This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things
Thursday
Just after 9 am, officers responded to Grandview Avenue for a report of a window busted out of a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. They took a report.
What’s That Smell?
Thursday
At 9:41 am, a citizen called police to complain that city workers had hit a gas line. He reported gas spewing everywhere. Columbia Gas was notified.
Friday
- Police were called to the Dari Crème just before 10 am. An employee reported a weird smell making everyone feel lightheaded.
- Police were called to Dewey Avenue at 5:30 pm for a report that it smelled like meth was cooking in the alley. Cops didn’t smell anything.
ODs and Drugs
Thursday
- At 10 am, police responded to a man who’d OD’s in a parked vehicle on Albert Street. He was taken to SOMC. The vehicle was towed.
- At 2 pm, police responded to a report of three people doing drugs in a Grant Street back yard. Officers found no signs of drugs, but told them to move on.
- Police responded at 3 pm to an overdose on Kendall Avenue. The suspect woke up and left the scene.
Friday
- Officers responded to the Marathon on the Scioto Trail just before 6 am for a report of a woman in the bathroom for two hours. She was under the influence and not able to drive. Her vehicle was impounded.
- At 12:24 pm, a woman called Greenup 911 from Robinson Avenue. She said she was “done with this place.” The caller advised 911 that she was using meth and that she wanted to in for detox. She was transported to SOMC.
- At 12:43 pm, a caller reported a man had overdosed and was lying in an alley off Center Street. He managed to get up and walk away before police arrived.
- Just before 4 pm, River Run Healthcare called police to report a runaway patient. The woman, who had a known drug problem, had been transferred there to receive antibiotic therapy. When she was left alone for a few minutes, she climbed out of a window with PICC line still in her arm.
Where’s My Toilet Paper?
Thursday
- Just after 11 am, a resident at Horizon House reported $1,300 in cash and food stamp card missing. Officers took a report.
- At 11:45, PPD responded to a report of items missing from a car on 2nd Street. Gone were money, toilet paper, and lottery tickets. Police took a report.
- Just after 7 pm, a Linden Avenue homeowner caught someone breaking into his home. The man was arrested.
Friday
At 9:52 am, police responded to Aldi on Gallia. A caller reported an employee was chasing two men down 17th Street. Officers caught up with one of the men carrying an Aldi sack. He admitted to stealing from the store. Police issued him a summons and let him go.
A Complete Mess
Thursday
At 12:47 police received a request to check on the welfare of three children on Walnut Street. The caller said the home was full of junk. Further, it was claimed that the mother was on probation and doing drugs. It was also alleged that a boyfriend was on drugs. There was no answer when police knocked.
Out of Gas
Thursday
Officers received a report just before 3pm of a white car parked on the side of the road for three hours. When they arrived, they found a woman had run out of gas. They took her to a gas station to get fuel. Then helped her get back on the road.
Trash Tussle
Thursday
- At 6:42 pm, a Robinson Avenue homeowner complained that a neighbor was putting trash in his can. He was advised to give the neighbor time to remove the trash.
- An hour later, the same man called back about the same issue. Police advised it was not a police matter.
