Portsmouth, Ohio Police spent Tuesday looking into all kinds of suspicious crime. Calls included a trashed house, threats from a hospitalized grandma, and a series of car break-ins on Grandview. We break down the highlights in these 8 slides. Also, please consider supporting us through Patreon.
Suspicious Activity
- Police answered a call to the Wendy’s on the Scioto Trail just before 2 am. A caller stated there was a vehicle with a man and two women on the lot. The two women appeared to be asleep and the man kept punching the dash over and over. Officers spoke to the people in the car. They were heading home for the night to Jackson and appeared to be fine.
- Just after 6:30, a caller reported a suspicious black truck circling on 7th Street. Police could not locate the vehicle.
- Officers responded to a report of a disturbance on 5th Street just before 2 pm. A caller reported a man in a red shirt yelling in the alley. They arrested him.
Hit Skip
Just before 3 am, an 8th Street caller reported he heard a crash. He found his neighbor’s car had been hit by a vehicle. He had no description of the car that hit it.
The next day a man came into the station to report that he was the driver in the accident. He gave his insurance information to the police and they assigned an officer to follow up.
Under The Influence
- A sister called police at 4:29 am to report that her brother was running around her Kendall Avenue apartment screaming and yelling. She said he’s angry because she won’t allow people to use drugs in her apartment. She filed a complaint against him previously. Officers advised her on how to file eviction papers.
- Just before 4 pm, a caller reported an apparently High Man on Gallia Street. Police could not locate him.
- Police received a report of someone acting like they were on drugs at the Taco Bell at 7:30 pm. Officers couldn’t find him.
- An apparently intoxicated woman called police from a Linden Avenue home just after 8 pm and cussed at the dispatcher. No one answered the door when police arrived.
Trashed
The tenants of a Robinson Avenue home called police at 10:19 am to complain their landlord barged through the door and told them to leave
The landlord countered that she gave them a 24-hour inspection notice. She also issued a 3-day eviction notice.
Police noted that the exterior of the residence was in bad shape with high grass and trash scattered around the front and rear of the home. Officers advised the tenants to clean up the mess.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- At 11:24 am, a caller reported a wheel stolen from a parked truck on Auburn. The missing wheel is a 15” Steel Rally Wheel with a whitewall tire. The caller said it went missing between 2 am and noon on 9/13.
- A Grandview Avenue caller reported items missing from their vehicle at 11:42 am. He said the thief broke into his car and took a guitar and amp.
- Four minutes later, another Grandview Avenue caller reported a similar car break-in. Police took information for a report.
- At exactly the same time, a shoplifter ran out of the Dollar General Store on Gallia. Police took a report.
- A woman called the police at 11:47 am to report her boyfriend took her cell phone. Forty-five minutes later, he gave it back.
- Just before 1 pm, a shoplifter fled Speedway in a dark blue truck. Police took a report.
- A 17th Street woman called police at 8:49 pm to report her boyfriend stole her TV. Police took a report.
Threatened by Grandma
A woman called police just after noon to report that her children’s hospitalized grandmother had threatened her life.
She said a hospital employee informed her about threats made to hurt or kill her. The children’s father is currently behind bars.
Unwanted Guests
A woman called police at 5:20 pm to report there were several unwanted people in her house. She also said her neighbors were tormenting her. There was no one in the house and the apartment next door was vacant.
Missing Daughter
A woman asked police to check out at Walnut Street home just before 7 pm. She said she dropped her daughter off to visit her boyfriend at a condemned house. The mom tried all day to contact her daughter but couldn’t get in touch.
When she went over to the home, the boyfriend told her to leave. Police said there was no answer at the door.
